Slowly and the proposed Islamic center near the zero point adopted by some Muslims who were initially indifferent about the plan, partly in response to a feeling that their religion is under attack.
Is scheduled for a summit of Muslim organizations in the United States to begin Sunday in New York City to address each of the project and an increase in anti-Muslim sentiment and rhetoric that has accompanied the national debate on this project.
That we have yet to see whether the groups will come out with a firm position on the proposed community center, called Park51. The main purpose of this meeting is to talk about ways to combat religious intolerance.
But he said Shaik Ubaid of the Islamic Leadership Council of Metropolitan New York, one of groups organizing the rally, has a growing feeling that some American Muslims who were initially fears are now throwing their support behind the plan.
We had a "Once it became a rallying cry for extremists, no option but to stand with Faisal (Abdel) Rauf," he said, referring to the Imam in New York City, who was leading a campaign for the center.
Groups are scheduled to participate in the summit include the Islamic Society of North America, and the Islamic Circle of North America, and the Islamic alliance in North America and the Council of American-Islamic Relations.
The special meetings held at a hotel near Kennedy Airport, and the group was planning to hold a news conference Monday at the site of the Islamic Center of the proposal.
Gauging support for the Centre between the Muslims in the U.S. is difficult. As a group, they are diverse, ranging from blacks who have found faith in the civil rights movement to the new immigrants coming from both sides of the world. Rarely speak with one voice.
United States raised Muslim, but after one of the priests in the state of Florida injected himself into the debate by threatening to burn copies of the Koran.
"I think that most Muslims outside New York City is more concerned about the backlash from the center of actual, most of which will directly benefit from," said Shahed Amanullah, editor of altmuslim.com the top of the site and a range of other sites under the name of Islam.
"Public support is in fact constructive," and said: "But perhaps this is more because of the pushback against a hostile climate the year."
Raised the site of the proposed center buildings from the site of the World Trade Center some relatives of Sept. 11 victims and led to angry demands that moved. Critics say that the site of mass murder by Islamic extremists is no place for the Islamic Foundation.
Rauf, called the Islamic Center 13 floors to be open to people of all religions, while the leader of his partner in the project, in Manhattan real estate developer Sharif sentences, emphasized non-religious aspects, which include health club, a culinary school.
The summit comes in some pro-Center has encouraged the organizers to include a prayer area for Jews and Christians, and other religious groups and the means to counter critics who say it will be a memorial to the rule of Islam.
Jolie said Manin, President of the Board of Directors of the Manhattan community that supported the project months ago, and she will meet with Rauf to discuss the possibility of religions in the coming weeks.
"They always talked about giving the status of the concept of interfaith dialogue," and said: "such as the existence of classes in Buddhism."
"It's one thing that the debate would be, but if you really want to achieve these factions together ... and at a distance of non-sectarian, between religions, such as the Church in the Ministry of Defence, where rabbis and local priests held services in different days of week."
There has always been some religions support for the Centre.
Like supporters of the concept of the city center after two popular centers of the Jewish community and a lengthy consultation with the managers to see how to make their downtown model, reached the neighborhood of some politicians for support.
Obaid said there was a connection not to mention the Muslims.
Raouf said Obaid, said: It may be talking about the President of regular and national media of the Islamic world, but between New York City was something of Imams abroad.
"He did not have to deal with the local Muslim community," said Obaid. He said that ensure that the public to rally support for the Centre before going public with his plans. "If we had the consultation, and we probably it would have told him, gently, no."
Even after the proposal became public, there was reluctance on the part of some Islamic groups to support this idea quickly, and partly because of questions about its usefulness.
Questions remained about the financing of the project. Investment partnership that owns property, under the leadership of sentences, and quickly fell more than $ 224,000 behind on their property taxes this summer.
The Chamber confirmed in the city on Friday that the financing of sentences may be started on Wednesday that the solution to debt, and delivering a check a little bit of dollars, and 35000 and the signing of a plan to pay eight installment to pay the rest.
Jamal said in a statement that failure to pay is due to disagreement with the city over the assessed value of the property - the appeal is still pending.
