Thank goodness this trailer finally made it online.
The clip is for “Drive Angry 3D.” It was attached to “Red” during my preview screening earlier this week, and it made me howl. Seriously, it plays like one of the bogus trailers Edgar Wright or Eli Roth created for “Grindhouse.” But it turns out “Drive Angry 3D” is a legitimate movie that’s due out next February.
Every line in the trailer is cheesy. The fact that Nic Cage delivers them with his “Wicker Man” intensity doesn’t help. Sample a few. They’re great.
“Tell ‘em … I’m coming.”
“Hell already is walking the earth.”
“I thought you were dead.”
“You hoped I was dead.”
This looks like “Death Proof” meets “Christine” meets “Ghost Rider” … and that’s before the typecasted William Fichtner, David Morse and Amber Heard stop by as villain, mentor and eye candy, respectively.
As bad as this clip is, it makes me want to see “Drive Angry 3D” tomorrow. At midnight. With a crowd of drunks. Was that the intention of the editors? If so, that’s genius.
“Drive Angry 3D” opens Feb. 11, 2011. The first official (and hilarious) trailer is here.
